La Dolce Vita

So today’s Nablopomo post is around one of my favourite subjects.  Travel.  It asks “What is one place you need to see to feel like your life is complete?”

While it would take more than a visit to Italy to make my life feel complete. But if it’s the only place I get to travel to before I die. Well then I would be pretty OK with dying after seeing Italy. Not that I want to tempt fate or anything. But Italy has always been on my travel list.  I have always had grand plans of the things I would want to do.

Definitely the Amalfi Coast and a visit to Positano.  Just because it looked so awesome in the move “Under the Tuscan Sun”.  I would also want to visit Sicily.  Hello “The Godfather”.  Then of course there’s the landscape I got sold on when watching “Stealing Beauty”. Then there’s the food. In “Eat, Pray, Love” the eat part was spent in Italy. But I fell in love with Italian food way before that.

There’s a visit to Panzano to eat at Dario Cecchini’s Butcher & Deli.  then there’s the tasting of REAL Limoncello. Besides the tasting of proper Durum wheat pasta and experiencing a proper Italian pizza.  Not some commercialised double crusted plastic cheese fest.

Then there’s visiting the various landmarks made famous by the Renaissance artists as well as visiting the spots made famous by poet Dante Alighieri.  Parts of my travels will be conducted by bicycle. Purely so that I can stop and take in the scenery but also slow down the pace to enjoy that sense of La Dolce Vita.

Of course this is all the creation of THE definitive Italian experience movie in my head.  Lets hope the reality lives up to the movie.
